Everyone focuses on choosing the right ERP software. But people who have gone through the process before will tell you that choosing the right ERP partner to install the software for you, is just as important. In fact, it can be even more important.

So how can you choose the right partner? Ask the right questions.

In this eBook 18 top ERP and CRM partners give their advice on exactly what to ask, and even warning signs that you should run the other way.

Here are a few examples:

  1. What makes your firm more qualified than the competitor?
  • Here’s a necessary truth to know: Finding the right partner to work with can be as important as finding the right solution to meet your organization’s unique requirements. So when talking to each partner, ask them “Why do you believe you will bring the most value to my company?” A capable partner should have strong expertise in your type of industry, certifications to show how well they know the related software, and show how strong of a trusted advisor they will prove to be.
  1. How do you handle customizations?
  • Standard ERP functionality is designed to support the most common business processes. But every business is different, and a “standard” package won’t fit your most crucial needs. Your partner should be able to specifically mention the potential options for customizations and a plan for how you will be able to work together to find the best solution for you. This requires that the potential partner should not just be a ‘jack-of-all-trades’, but should be an expert in your industry.
  1. How often do you go over budget on implementations?
  • In a perfect world, nothing would go over budget. But that’s not always possible. There are many reasons why a project can go over budget. Some reasons are unexpected but many pitfalls can be avoided with some foresight. Ask your potential partner how often they go over budget and what processes they have in place for when this happens. They should have an established process and a clear project plan, as well as actively being able to manage the project.
  1. How does the size of your organization influence your services?
  • How large or small your implementation partner is may significantly impact how your project is managed. For example, a larger firm may have many consulting resources to draw from but may lack the kind of personalized service a small company might have to offer. To know what kind you need, identify your priorities, and specific needs. You can then evaluate this against a partner’s skills in the type of training, service, and assembled teams they can offer.
