Handling customer support via SMS/text messages

Hey small/mid-size business owners, I was wondering whether you have ever tried to handle customer questions via text messages before. How did it go? Do you recommend it? What were some of the adventages/disadvantages you experienced?

I want to give it a try but my main concern is that customers may not prefer it over call/email. And if they do, would there be too much back and forth?
