For decades, the business world has been transitioning to becoming technologically dependent. It has been a gradual and natural growth. Today, ERP has become the norm for companies, but when COVID-19 took its toll, rapid adjustment was required. Organizations with off-premises cloud ERP had a much smoother adjustment because they already had easy access to all work while maintaining a hybrid working lifestyle. Those who had not yet moved to the cloud found the time for change had arrived Some needed a faster but temporary solution. others embarked on more complete and long-term transformation to the cloud. Here we will discuss 3 different strategies to move ERP to the cloud.

Lift & Shift

This is a quick method that takes your current solution to the cloud. This is the simplest and easiest way to make the move in the short-term. If a quick fix is what you need, this could be a smart choice. But it won’t work for everyone. The newer your ERP, the easier this will be. It’s also important to remember, whatever issues or bottlenecks exist with your current system won’t be suddenly ironed out, just because you’ve moved to the cloud.

Surround Strategy

This strategy is less of a transformation, but more of an addition to your current solution. This is often used with the lift and shift strategy but can also be useful doing it alone. This involves keeping your current solutions and adding cloud solutions around it. Think of it as armor that is used to protect and guide your older ERP into battle. The surround strategy is also used as a temporary solution and acts as a band-aid.

Replacement Strategy

The replacement strategy is the best in the long-term. Full replacement may be a simple decision to make, but the process and execution is not. You do not have to replace everything at once though. This strategy to move ERP to the cloud is a full transformation, which requires the largest investment of money and time. But it’s not without reward. This complete change will allow you to cast a critical eye on your business processes, helping you see where’s there’s room for improvement.
