( votes)I'm late(ish!) 30s and have worked in digital marketing for my entire career. Quite generalist. Currently focusing on projects and processes in my current mid-level role. I want to transition into CRM as I think it plays to my strengths and interests.
From my perspective, I have transferable skills: project management, overall marketing knowledge, strategy, analytical skills (could be developed though!), process improvements, managing PM software, collaborating between departments. But I obviously have gaps: I haven't really been involved in CRM work for years. Did a little bit here and there throughout my career, but in no real meaningful way – creating some very basic email journeys.
I'm wondering whether anyone else has taken a similar path and can share any advice?
Some specific questions:
- Where do I start?! 🙂
- What CRM system would be advisable to learn? SalesForce, Marketo, HubSpot, Dynamics, other?
- I'm late 30s with mortgage, wife, and kids – am I going to have to start from the bottom and work up? If so, will my progression be speedier due to prior experience? Don't mind taking a hit on salary initially, but would be good to hear that I won't be starting literally from square one again with another 10 years to get the same salary!!
- Is there a course I can take that would plug what I see as my gaps?… Specific CRM system training, customer data management, CRM strategy.
- What are the prospects for the future? Is it even a good idea to pivot into CRM?
- What other roles / paths can I take in in the future?
