The world is no longer the same, especially since Artificial Intelligence technologies witnessed accelerated growth in the last few months. AI-powered technologies have been existing for decades. However, San Francisco-based OpenAI launching its sensational ChatGPT last November has become a seminal moment. Ever since there have been countless developments in the world of AI.

From chatbots that assist in search to those that automate routine tasks, AI tools have been launched in rapid succession. All this could not have been possible without large language models that are trained on Internet datasets. Later, GPT-3.5 was launched and it underpins ChatGPT. In March, this year, the company released GPT-4 both as an API and a feature on ChatGPT Plus. GPT-4 is so far the most advanced model in the GPT series.

Even as AI technologies are being elevated to dizzying heights, there has been a clamour around GPT-4. Considering the wide-ranging potential and its impact on humanity, several quarters of society have voiced their apprehensions.

Regardless of the fears, the latest phenomenon that is an outcome of GPT-4 is the Auto-GPT, which is being hailed as the next game changer. It all began with the release of an open-source Python application called Auto-GPT and this has in a way changed perceptions around Artificial general intelligence (AGI).

What is AutoGPT?

To understand AutoGPT, one must understand AGI. Think of a future where AI models such as GPT have the ability to define and perform tasks to achieve an objective and all of it is done autonomously without any human intervention. This is essentially an AGI.

AutoGPT is an autonomous GPT-4 experiment, an open-source attempt to make GPT-4 entirely autonomous. And, its popularity has been soaring worldwide in the last few days. So far numerous programmers have shown the potential of AutoGPT via YouTube videos. AutoGPT can be used as an agent for internet search and planning, for autonomous coding and debugging, and as an autonomous Twitter bot.
