Microsoft has launched a new re-organization of the teams that oversee business cloud services and business applications.

James Phillips

The newly formed Digital Transformation Platform Group will be led by James Phillips as president and will encompass Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, along with Azure AI Platform, Azure Data Platform, Azure IoT Platform, and the new industry cloud solutions. In his previous role as president of Business Solutions, Phillips led Dynamics and Power Platform applications and services.

The reorg took place on March 11, according to ZDNet,  and was not a cost-cutting or layoff event.

Phillips has updated his LinkedIn profile already, where he explains that his new role manages a 15,000-person team. By contrast, his previous business applications group was estimated to have only about half that number of employees by some estimates. He will continue to report to executive vice president Scott Guthrie, who has responsibility for Azure, Dynamics 365, Windows Server, Visual Studio, GitHub, and more.
