TSMC and Microsoft team up on silicon design
Rani Borkar, CVP of Azure Hardware Systems and Infrastructure touted a new partnership between Microsoft and TSMC, leveraging Azure-based architecture for TSMC’s Virtual Design Environment to focus on silicon semiconductor design. As part of the initiative, Microsoft aims to support to new VM types and cloud-optimized Electronic Design Automation.
The two companies have worked together since 2018, when TSMC announced its OIP Virtual Design Environment and OIP Cloud Alliance, with numerous touchpoints between TSMC and the Silicon on Azure team culminating in white papers earlier this year.
