Using a CRM – ideally Insightly – to track regular customer contact

I know almost nothing about CRMs.

I want to establish a system where I make sure that clients / prospects are being contacted by my team at least to a certain frequency – for some clients that might be monthly, for others it will be less.

I have been using Insightly. Is it possible to do this with Insightly? Can someone point me in the direction of some useful resources that might help?

Most contact is by email, so bcc'ing in the Insightly email address works pretty well (I guess this is a feature all CRMs have). But is there a way to check whether organisations have been contacted within the past month or do more sophisticated reporting / alerts like this? It feels like this should be possible.
