( votes)Looking for a new job is a job in itself.
It takes an incredible amount of time and effort. You spend hours and hours on research, making adjustments to your resume, tailoring cover letters, applications, and sending follow-ups after your interviews.
In order to stand out from the crowd and get a chance of an interview, the person in charge of reviewing the initial applications must feel like you’ve done your research and that you are motivated enough for the position you are applying for.
We’ve recently heard from several of our customers that they have successfully been using Nimble CRM for job search and want to share their experience with you.
In this post, we will cover several features in Nimble that can help you with the following:
- Researching companies you are interested in working with and their key decision-makers
- Keeping track of the history of your communication with companies
- Keeping track of your success and interviews using Deals in Nimble
- Managing follow-ups
- Tracking your emails and providing notifications on clicks and opens
- Saving you time on retyping the same messages and using email templates
Personalization and Research is Key to a Job Search Success
The better fit you are for the position you are applying for, the better your chances of getting an interview and getting hired are. It’s important to make sure that the company culture, location, and other important factors are something that would work for you; while doing all this research, you might find yourself spread across multiple different websites.
You might read what current and former employees say about the company on Glassdoor. You could be looking at the company LinkedIn page, and then looking at the LinkedIn profiles of people that are hiring for the position you are applying for.
Use the Nimble browser extension to create contact records for all these people, and fill out the contact records with all the information that might help you personalize your resume, cover letter, and outreach.
Let’s pretend that Simon is one of the people that will be making a decision in the hiring process. After reviewing his LinkedIn profile, you were able to discover that he has written several books. Add this information to Nimble and have it on file in case there’s an opportunity to mention it when speaking to him.
It’s also a good idea to connect with the people you are interviewing with on LinkedIn and reiterate your interest in the position. Sending the invite is another opportunity to show that you have done your research and are a good fit for the company.
Keep Track of Your Target Companies & Decision Makers
In 2018, one of our long-time customers was looking for a new career opportunity. Since this customer we are talking about was Koka Sexton, one of the early pioneers of social selling, he decided to turn to his network and use social media to find his new career. He was successful in his endeavors and wrote a blog post on LinkedIn about his process. He shared that his network came through incredibly and that:
“The #HireKoka campaign connected me to so many potential opportunities that I had to build a spreadsheet of companies and then I would use Nimble to keep track of the people.”
The worst thing you can do when looking for a job is to not follow-up with the people that recommend you, make introductions for you, and the people that you interview with. Most of these conversations will either happen on email or even on social media, like LinkedIn.
This is where Nimble Prospector comes in handy again. You can use it to create new and update existing contacts straight from Outlook, Gmail, as well as straight from LinkedIn. It’s very easy to apply a tag to a company or an individual and ensure that you will be able to easily find them later. Together with all the necessary information about them.

Keeping track of your success & interviews using Deals in Nimble
Consider creating a new pipeline in Nimble and defining individual stages as steps in the hiring process. If you create a deal for each job that you apply to, and put it in the appropriate stage on the pipeline, you will be able to always quickly see where all your opportunities stand and which ones you need to follow up with.
“I use Nimble to track a job search. Nimble helps me keep track of my network, information about my target companies, tasks I need to complete, and people I should keep in touch with. I also like the fact that Deals are my jobs that I’m applying to.”
~ Jonathan Gaby, Digital Marketing Strategist looking for new opportunities
The individual stages can look something like this:
The deal can look something like this:
Never Forget to Follow-up
It’s very easy to forget to follow-up with somebody may it be to thank them for making an introduction to you and recommending you for a job or to thank them after you have been interviewed by them.
Nimble makes it easy for you to schedule follow-ups ahead of time to ensure that everybody will always hear from you.
You can also relate scheduled tasks to existing deals. This way, you will always have everything you need to know in one place.
Save Time and Use Email Templates
Even in our daily process, we find ourselves retyping the same sentences over and over again. This can be especially true when you’re in the middle of a job search. Take advantage of the email templates in Nimble and use them to paste information that always stays the same and only spend time on customizing the message.
And don’t forget to set up your email signature so all your emails look professional!
Track Your Email & The Success of Your Outreach
When sending emails from within Nimble, you have the option to send them as tracked. If you choose to track your emails, you will receive notifications and will have insights on the clicks and opens. Armed with the information about when the recipients are opening your emails and clicking on the links you included, you will be able to follow-up with them at the right time — when you are on their mind.
If you have any questions about using Nimble, feel free to send them to us at care@nimble.com and/or attend any of our daily and weekly training webinars!
