Microsoft has acquired Softomotive, makers of Windows-based application automation software WinAutomation, and will be incorporating the solution into Power Automate.
In announcing the deal, Microsoft corporate vice president Charles Lamanna stated:
Together with Power Automate, WinAutomation will provide customers additional options for RPA desktop authoring so anyone can build a bot and automate Windows-based tasks. The combined offering will also enable RPA connectivity to many new apps and services including SAP and traditional green-screen terminal applications.
WinAutomation will be provided at no additional cost to PowerAutomate customers who have licenses for Attended RPA, according to Microsoft’s documentation.
The acquisition would appear to cover one of the critiques of Power Automate’s existing Robotic Process Automation (RPA) capabilities: the gaps that remained around the UI Flows tool when working with different desktop and older legacy applications.
