( votes)How to show/hide contents having zero quantity from Item/Bin Inquiry in Warehouse Insight app?
Overview:
The Warehouse Insight app equips warehouse associates with the ability to inquire on item quantity on hand and contents of a bin using the Item or Bin inquiry application.
This Item Inquiry and Bin Inquiry is available on the main landing page of Warehouse Insight app and from within an application such as receive, put-away, pick and so on.
Main Landing Page
Receive application menu
Item inquiry Application includes the below information with respect to the selected item:
-quantity on hand, location/quantity per bin
-transaction history
-printing labels
Bin inquiry Application includes the below information with respect to the selected bin:
-items and license plates in the bin
-recent transactions
-printing labels
Bin Contents (Business Central):
The bin contents in Business Central represent specific items stored in designated bins within the warehouse. The bin’s content refers to the items, quantities and characteristics such lot numbers stored in the bins.
When you look at the bin contents, it will display a combination of bin code and item no. that either have quantities or are defined as a fixed bin as below
Scenario:
Let’s say the warehouse associate is tasked to reorganize a product (code) lying in different bins to optimize space.
The first thing the associate would need to do is identify the bins in which the item has quantity. For this, the associate would use the Item Inquiry application and scan the Item under question, which would show the item quantity per bin. This would help the associate to further plan and execute the optimization effectively.
Let’s consider another scenario, in which the warehouse associate is tasked to move all products from one bin to another.
The first thing the associate would need to do is identify which products and how many are in the bin. For this, the associate would use the Bin Inquiry application and scan the bin under question which would display the bin quantity per item. This allows us to plan (ex. pallets/skids) and execute the movement accordingly.
Let’s run through the example below which shows all bin contents, even if the quantity is zero.
If you notice in the Bin Contents page (Business Central) below, item# 1900-S in bin W-02-0001 does not have any quantity in the bin and is shown because it is defined as a fixed bin with min and max quantities
If we look up the bin W-02-0001 from the Bin Inquiry application in the Warehouse Insight app, it shows the contents within the bin i.e., 1900-S with quantity as zero.
If we look up the item# 1900-S from the Item Inquiry application in Warehouse Insight app, it displays the bin W-02-0001 with zero quantity.
Let’s explore how this is accomplished!
Let’s say the business does not want to show bins with zero quantity to the warehouse associates as they think it is unnecessary information and could be confusing.
So, to change that behavior and only show bins with quantities, you need to change the configuration on Device Configuration card. Please note that you may have several devices using different configurations, so you would need to change all device configuration records to maintain consistency.
You can consider using a configuration package if you have several device configuration records to update.
Below are the steps:
- Look for and open the Warehouse Insight Device Configurations page in Business Central
- Double click or click on View from Manage menu to open the respective card. Change the Bin Content Quantity Filter field (Miscellaneous tab) to Hide Zero Quantity and close this page
- On your Warehouse Insight app, click on the menu and reload the app configuration to populate the device with new application data
- Login and open the Bin Inquiry list, scan bin# W-02-0001 and verify the contents of Bin and item# 1900-S with zero quantity is not displayed.
- Open the Item Inquiry list, scan item# 1900-S and verify the fixed bin W-02-0001 with zero quantity is not displayed
By removing zero quantity bin and items, you allow warehouse associates to only see what is needed.
