why am I shocked? Bonterra rant

My organization recently switched from Network for Good ("NFG", now owned by Bonterra) to Bloomerang. Bloomerang has been incredible in the transition, with a ton of friendly human and other resources for making the switch as seamless as possible.

Our funding is largely through recurring donors: we have nearly 800, on a variety of schedules from monthly to semiannual to annual. In the sales process, Bloomerang told me about their recurring payments team who could use payment tokens to move these recurring donors over without any effort from our donors.

Earlier this month, NFG said they didn't have the capability to send payment tokens. Bloomerang pushed back, saying they know and spoke to the payment processor NFG uses and that it's technically possible. Now, 2.5 weeks later, Bonterra finally admits they simply have no contractual obligation to provide us the payment tokens. I've now had to re-up my $6,900 annual membership (no monthly option, of course!) just to buy me time while I manually move all 800 of my donors over.

Sure, NFG has no contractual obligations, but every other CRM in the business gives out payment tokens. So the moral of the story: NFG and Bonterra will keep your donors hostages on their platform. Get off and stay away!
