( votes)A Cloud Solution Provider is a company that has partnered with Microsoft to help provide services of cloud computing. Typically, these provided services fall into one of three categories – infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). Let’s take a closer look at those categories.
IaaS vs PaaS vs SaaS
Infrastructure as a Service: IaaS allows for the customer to not have to provide the foundations of their environment. This could include items like servers, networks, databases, and data storage. The cloud is the beginning of serverless computing, and this is the first step into that option.
Platform as a Service: PaaS are the tools that allow for your application to be run. This would mean that the customer doesn’t have to worry about platforms like operating systems, as well as runtime environments. They would solely host their applications and data, while still having access to the Infrastructure and Platforms mentioned earlier that are in the cloud.
Software as a Service: SaaS is the complete solution. Here, companies don’t have to manage and host the own applications and are instead able to access them from anywhere.
Here’s a great graphic from Microsoft Azure that breaks down the differences between these three categories
Do I Need One?
It can be difficult to manage all of your services on-premise. If these questions come up at your company, it could be a good time to start looking at Cloud Solution Providers.
- Do I have the physical space to manage my services on-premise?
- Do I have enough resources to keep my services up and running?
- Do I want to pay for capital equipment? Or do I want the simpler (and cheaper) pay-as-you-go model?
- Do I foresee a change of demand for IT resources in the future? Are my on-prem services currently scalable?
- Do I need to access my services from anywhere, anytime?
