Turning large Excel client list to CRM?

Hi! I'm new to CRM and at my new worplace i got tasked with turning the current Excel format of CRM into an "easier to search" format, they were a bit vague with what's the new version they want though, other than to not Excel anymore.

Is there any service (preferably free or at least long enough free trial so that i can try it out first before any commitment)?

The thing is, the current client list in Excel is quite large so if there was a way to add it to the new CRM non-manually it would help a lot. As i said, I'm not too experienced with CRM, only with SQL coding and programming in general if it's relevant / helpful here.
