Looking for basic software to manage my tax clients

I have 1500 tax preparation clients and 8 employees. I am looking for basic software that can keep track of the employees and what stage they are in the return. I know there are lots of softwares out there, but for our firm basic is better. I do not want all the bells and whistles for two reasons. I do not want the employees to have to spend all day clicking buttons and I think the less features mean less time to learn new software and less room for error. Also I have received some quotes that would be way too much for what we need. Any ideas?
