Connecting a hybrid server with Azure Arc
Microsoft senior cloud advocate Thomas Maurer explored how to connect a hybrid server to Azure with Azure Arc. To link-up a server running on-prem, users start by navigating to Azure portal and the Azure Arc Center, choosing the Arc-enabled servers option. The Add button plays an important role in onboarding. Currently, users have a choice between running an interactive script or the add servers at scale method. The onboarding at scale option requires a Service Principal Name with a minimum amount of Azure permissions.
Maurer opted for the interactive script, plugging in resource details like the Azure subscription, region for metadata and resource group. Users also need to choose the OS type because the script has different variants for Windows and Linux. He configured tags for the Arc-enabled server and the script downloaded the Azure Connected Machine agent, installed the agent and registered the server.
