Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
Working from home means no longer are you in an office surrounded by coworkers you can speak to when encountering issues. And if you don’t usually work from home, chances are you will encounter more bumps in the road. The key to navigating these bumps in the road and remaining working at the same level of efficiency is communication.
Switch Things Up
While email is a lifesaver in this time of remote work, you can’t rely solely on email. Remember when you were working in the office you wouldn’t always just shoot someone an email; you’d speak to them in person.
While you can’t simply pop into your boss or coworker’s office anymore you can still check-in over the phone or through video chat. By doing this you will cut down on any miscommunication and can reply in time to any questions that may come up. Plus, this will also help break up some of the social isolation you may feel while working from home.
Find What Works Best for Your Company
There are several applications that can be used to connect employees and facilitate communication. It can be easy to get lost in trying to find which one is the best. But it isn’t necessarily about finding which is the best application but just which one works best for your company.
Your aim is to create an environment in which team leaders feel able to provide honest and constructive feedback, and team members feel confident to voice concerns and communicate with one another.
Two of the biggest things you’re going to need is a way to quickly and easily chat and set up meetings with employees.
Apps like Zoom or Google Hangouts allow you to schedule and hold meetings as you would in the office, only now through video. While for quick chatting with coworkers you might want to look into apps like Slack or Microsoft Teams. Both allow you to create specific chat channels while also offering one-on-one chatting. By doing this you give your employees another, quick and easy way to reach coworkers when they may encounter an issue or even when they may be feeling more socially isolated. Just make sure that the applications are being used appropriately during working hours.
Utilize Cloud Technology
With workers spread so far apart it is important to find ways to keep both the workers and the work they are doing connected.
That is why cloud technology is vital, especially in the time of remote workforces. Cloud technology enables employees to work from any location, giving them access via a virtual environment to the same information they’d have access to from the office. Collaboration and communication tools also ensure that your employees can use the latest techniques and complete work at the same level they would if working from their office desktop.
