For the nearly six years I’ve been a part of Sage Intacct, community service and volunteerism has always been a huge part of our corporate culture. I recently chatted with my colleague, Sydney Burden, who shared some of the events we participate in and the goals that Sage Intacct has for its employees around volunteering. Check out what she had to say!
Brittany Benson: Thanks for chatting with me today, Sydney! You’ve been heavily involved with putting together many of the volunteer opportunities and charity projects at Sage Intacct and I’m always impressed with the turnout. Do you think this high level of interest is due to encouragement from the organization, an organic representation of the culture here, or an amalgam of both?
Sydney Burden: Employees at Sage Intacct are traditionally very interested in volunteering, so we try and make it a priority to provide opportunities and ways for them to get involved in the local community, even if that means doing so sometimes during the work day.
Brittany: Yes, I’ve always thought that was such a unique way to make it easier for people to volunteer and give back to the community even if they are exceptionally busy.
Sydney: Absolutely. Sage Intacct pays and allows its employees to volunteer up to five workdays per year without having to take any personal time off. As an organization, we closely track this so that we can try and increase our volunteering goals each year and continue to encourage employees to use this time.
Between Sage and Sage Intacct, we have a goal this year to have everyone complete a total of 35,000 volunteer days across the globe. We also have a $2 million donation goal to reach or exceed, as well. In 2019, our goal was $1 million, and we surpassed it, so now we’re trying to get to $2 million by 2022. When employees donate, Sage Foundation will match up to $250 per employee per year. So even if people aren’t able to volunteer somewhere in person, we make it attractive for them to give monetarily as well.
Brittany: That’s fantastic. Can you share a few of the volunteering opportunities that Sage Intacct has either organized or hosted in recent months?
Sydney: Definitely. In August we did our annual backpack drive, where we collect school supplies for kids that are getting ready to start the school year that may have difficulty affording school supplies. About 100 Sage Intacct employees bought backpacks and school necessities, and filled the packs with things each child would need, and then we dropped them off at the Family Giving Tree so that they could be distributed to kids throughout the Bay Area. We also recently did a Habitat for Humanity project by installing new windows for local low-income families and a food drive where we packaged 10,000 meals for those in need. One of my favorite charity events that Sage Intacct has done was our holiday wish drive. We put tags on Christmas trees here in the office so that people could select a tag, and see what an underprivileged, local child wanted for Christmas, purchase that gift, and the ensure the child received the gift in time for Christmas. Over 60 Sage Intacct employees participate in that as well.
A few other events we’ve done lately is an ugly sweater charity happy hour that employees gave a small amount of money to participate in, which was then donated to Loaves & Fishes. Most recently, we held a relief fundraiser for the wildlife fires in Australia which has raised $3,729.
Brittany: It’s fantastic to see how many Sage Intacct employees enjoy getting involved in opportunities around the community and help those who are in need. And I’ve always loved that Sage Intacct makes it so easy to volunteer!
I recently did a Habitat for Humanity project in Boise with a few local Sage employees which was absolutely wonderful. We had the opportunity to work on a home for a disabled veteran and his family. It was a privilege to get to participate in such a hands on way. We can’t wait to go back!
