In May of 2021, the US government Department of Homeland Security issued a Terrorism Advisory bulletin warning business owners about the rising threat of cyberattacks. Since then, ransomware attacks have shown up in many countries around the world. Ransomware is malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until large sums of money are paid.

How Acumatica Can Help

Acumatica has always taken a serious approach to security. Here’s a case study of how Acumatica Cloud ERP security helped one company recover from ransomware:

“Ransomware hit our legacy on-premises system. We were down for about two weeks; we couldn’t use our internet or anything. Arc of Yates [a business subsidiary] had been on Acumatica since 2018. That could still run, so we could still run a portion of our business.” — Tammy Raub, CFO, Mozaic (quoted in Diginomica)

Mozaic is a non-profit organization serving more than 2,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the largest provider of such services in the Central NY region.

One of Mozaic’s business subsidiaries had previously moved to Acumatica Cloud ERP. Just prior to a broader Acumatica implementation, Mozaic was targeted by ransomware hackers.

“It spread throughout three counties: all the computers and servers except for one Active Directory server, one file server, and our backup, which we had unplugged the week before,” Mozaic’s CFO Tammy Raub said. “It was a nightmare of a time for the whole agency. We were down for two weeks without internet.”

Mozaic quickly assembled a team to wipe 500 computers. “It took a few weeks to get everything back up,” Raub said.

Only one program was unaffected: Acumatica Cloud ERP. Because it was hosted in the Cloud, the Acumatica software and all the data were secure.

There was no problem with Acumatica. All they needed was access to the internet, which all the employees had at home. The security and mobility of Acumatica saved them from having to shut down their entire organization.

Since then, Mozaic has moved entirely to Acumatica. They recognized Acumatica Cloud ERP’s flexibility, affordability, and rock-solid security and knew it was what they wanted for the future of their organization.

Acumatica Security Can Help Your Business Avoid Ransomware Attacks

With increasing cybercrime,  there are no failsafe means to guarantee against all ransomware or other cyberattacks. However, you can prevent most ransomware incidents if you have implemented adequate security protocols. Acumatica makes that easy to do.

Small to mid-size companies may employ a range of in-office and remote workers, each using personal phones and tablets to access sensitive company information at all hours and from a range of locales. Security can be a nightmare. Many businesses have had to hire large in-house teams or a costly Managed Services Provider (MSP).

But, an Acumatica Cloud ERP subscription includes maximum security for all your valuable ERP data. Your teams can focus on growing your business, secure in the knowledge that Acumatica is working hard in the background to keep your organization safe from ransomware and other threats.
