In a State of Deacom talk, our Founder and CEO, Jay Deakins, discussed various ways that team members can stand out and make a difference at Deacom.

“We give the artisan award to team members who have made a unique impact at Deacom and there are a couple ways to do this,” said Deakins. “1) Work on a challenging project and play a critical role in helping the team overcome those challenges. 2) Become an expert and go-to resource for other people in a certain area. 3) Make something we already do better and more efficient.”

Deakins went on to announce our newest Standout Artisan who he says has successfully checked off all three of these accomplishments in their time at Deacom in various implementation roles. “Each strategy helps to not only make our team be more efficient but also allows this artisan to extend his value to make us all more successful,” he said.

Congratulations, Charlie Gondeck, Customer Success Manager!

So, who is Charlie?

Describe your role at Deacom?

I am a Customer Success Manager (CSM) at Deacom. Currently, I am in a hybrid role as I drive my open implementation projects to completion before fully transitioning to my new CSM role. I am looking forward to completing my open tasks and shifting towards helping our live customers expand their use of DEACOM more effectively.

When and how did you come to work at Deacom?

I started working at Deacom in May 2018 as a Product Specialist. Prior to Deacom, I was a Commodity Manager for a water treatment company, where I managed category spend focused on cost-savings projects and contract negotiations with vendors. I was looking to move into software and gain better exposure to the end-to-end supply chain, so Deacom was a great fit!

What do you enjoy most about working at Deacom?

I really enjoy the challenge of working with customers in different industries. In the past year, I’ve worked with customers in the nutraceutical, seasonings/spices, specialty chemicals, and industrial adhesives markets. It’s exciting to learn how each company manages its business and figure out how to efficiently integrate their processes into DEACOM.

In addition, I really enjoy coming into the Denver Office. We have a great group always willing to help and have a lot of fun together.

What has been your favorite project at Deacom thus far?

Advance Research Chemicals. It was a complicated implementation that included configuring four unique production operations, which required using a lot of DEACOM functionality to fit each facility’s needs. This helped my knowledge of the system grow immensely throughout the project, as the project scope called for enhanced knowledge in order to deliver sound solutions.

The project took a total team effort, collaborating with colleagues in the Colorado office as well as our PA headquarters. It was awesome to see it all come together at the end for a successful Go-Live.

What excites you most about the technology industry?

I love that it is constantly evolving. Continuous improvement discourages complacency for end-users and thus improves people’s ability to perform tasks more efficiently.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?

Anything that keeps me outside. In the winter I get to the mountains to snowboard as much as I can. In the summer I love to trail run, hike, and fly fish. Year-round I am an avid beer fan, so enjoy checking out new breweries as much as I can. My personal Colorado favorites are Odell, Ratio, New Terrain, and Outer Range.

What is something that people would be surprised to learn about you?

I co-lead a movie podcast, “What’s left to Ponder,” with a good high school friend. He lives in New York, so it’s a fun way to keep in touch and discuss something we both have a passion for. Our listener list is currently at 5!

If you are holding or wearing anything specific for your bobblehead, can you explain what it means to you?

I am wearing an Adam Thielen Vikings jersey. We both grew up in Minnesota, so naturally, he’s my favorite player. More importantly, I admire his work ethic, grit, and competitiveness.

Even though the Vikings break my heart every year and make me question why I continue to invest time watching them, I continue rooting for them in hopes we can win a Super Bowl in my lifetime!
