As we all are aware, that in the Dynamics 365 Timeline control, Activities are by default arranged in order of Last Modified On. Let’s take the example of “Account” form, here as you can see activities are arranged on basis of last modified date. Find the screenshot below:

This Timeline configuration setting can be found in the form editor of Account form, go to Activities tab of the timeline control, by default it is found to be on basis of “Last Updated” as shown below:

Note: As shown above display for these fields in the timeline is currently set to show the default fields.

As we all know, we can change the sorting order of the timeline by selecting a new value under the dropdown, for example we can order the timeline by order of “Created On” Date. As shown in below screenshot:

The timeline will reflect this sort order, however, note that the date field displayed will still be the default (Modified On) and will not reflect the new “Created On” sort criteria.

If you want to change the display configuration in timeline to match the new sort order (i.e. Date Created in our example) then in UCI, we can choose to display Activity entity by Card Form and modify the Card Forms accordingly.

Ensure that the date you want to display is the second field in the Header tab of the Card Form otherwise the new sorting with Date Created would not be reflected.

Note: As shown below when display activities are selected as Card form it will start showing the timeline with new sorting field i.e. “Date Created” and an Entity where the Card Form not selected will continue displaying the default fields in the timeline. i.e ‘Last Updated”

Conclusion

Useful feature to easily decide the field based on which activities under timeline need to be ordered by as per customer’s needs and can be easily configured on entity level.
